Rajasthan Royals' fast bowler Shoail Tanvir took 6 for 14, the best figures at any level of Twenty20 cricket, to decimate the Chennai Super Kings for 109 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Tanvir was in red hot form from the start, he trapped Parthiv Patel lbw with the first ball of the mach and then dismissed Stephen Fleming in similar fashion a few balls later. It set the tone for the rest of the innings, leaving Rajasthan well placed for a fifth consecutive victory.
In a match whose winner has the added incentive of being sole leader after six rounds, Chennai Super Kings chose to bat in Jaipur. The Rajasthan Royals are on a high after four successive victories while Chennai tripped up against the Delhi Daredevils in their previous game after triumphs in their first four matches.
Chennai had the misfortune of facing two of the strongest teams, Delhi and Rajasthan, immediately after the loss of three of their big-name batsmen. Stephen Fleming's presence helps soften the blow but the other opener Parthiv Patel is due a big score - he has promised much but failed to deliver, getting into double figures in all five games but failing to push on beyond 21. One of their other newcomers, Albie Morkel, showcased his hitting abilities in the previous match but has had a rough time with the ball so far.
After a feeble showing in their first match against Delhi, Rajasthan's batting has flourished, with at least two batsmen making substantial scores in each innings. Sohail Tanvir, who was a revelation during the World Twenty20 last year, adds bite to the Royals' bowling attack.
The match also features the clash between the game's premier spinners of recent times, Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan.
Mixx it!
